Keynote Speaker
Rear-Admiral D.J. Patchell, CD
Rear-Admiral D.J. Patchell, is a senior leader in the Royal Canadian Navy and currently serves as Commander of Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific. A graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, he began his naval career in 1993 and has since built a distinguished record of operational command, strategic leadership, and international service. Over three decades, he has served at sea and ashore with both Canada’s Pacific and Atlantic fleets, commanded HMCS Toronto on deployment to the Middle East, and held senior strategic appointments at National Defence Headquarters and with the United States Navy as Vice-Commander of the U.S. Second Fleet.
Rear-Admiral Patchell will attend with Chief Petty Officer First Class Jon Sorensen. Together, they bring a commanding presence, a profound sense of national duty, and a lived understanding of Canada’s role on the world stage. Their leadership reflects a deep respect for service, sacrifice, and the shared responsibility of protecting Canada’s sovereignty.
As keynote speaker, Rear-Admiral Patchell will offer a speech that inspires military personnel and civilians alike, shaped by years of command, global responsibility, and principled leadership. His presence honours the dignity of service and the human cost borne by members, veterans, and their families. His participation lends meaning and distinction to this evening and to the values we gather to uphold.

Behind the Event
Rotary Club of Vancouver Waterfront

The Story of the Vancouver Military Dinner
Since 2014, the Vancouver Military Dinner has been a signature occasion that brings together members of Canada’s Armed Forces, veterans, and civilians for an evening of connection and community. Hosted at The Vancouver Club, the event honours military service and traditions while fostering dialogue, understanding, and Canadian pride.
In 2026, thanks to the Rotary Club of Vancouver Waterfront, this proud tradition continues. With deep appreciation to the original organizers — and their trust in passing us the torch — the Rotary Club is honoured to carry forward the legacy of this event. Our passion is to preserve its spirit of fellowship, respect, and gratitude, while ensuring it remains a meaningful gathering that supports Canada’s Armed Forces, and Veterans.

The Impact We Make
Each year, the Vancouver Military Dinner directs its proceeds toward organizations making a measurable difference in the lives of those who serve. For 2026, our fundraising will support Wounded Warriors Canada (WWC) — a national mental health service provider dedicated to supporting those impacted by trauma within Canada’s Armed Forces, first responder, and veteran communities.
